WE ARE BLAQUE KC

BLAQUE KC endorses candidates for school board because we believe that strong, equity-driven leadership is essential to transforming educational outcomes for ALL students. School board members hold the power to shape policies, allocate resources, and set the vision for the future of our schools—decisions that directly impact the quality of education our children receive.

Our endorsement process is rigorous, ensuring that candidates share our commitment to high-quality, culturally affirming, and student-centered education. We support leaders who will champion accountability, challenge systemic inequities, and prioritize the needs of students and families. By endorsing candidates, we are not just influencing elections—we are building a coalition of change-makers who will fight for justice, excellence, and opportunity in every classroom.

BLAQUE KC is proud to support the $474 million KCPS General Obligation (GO) Bond because we believe every child deserves to learn in a safe, modern, and fully equipped school. For far too long, Kansas City Public Schools and participating charter schools have been forced to operate in aging buildings with critical infrastructure failures—outdated heating and cooling systems, leaky roofs, and inadequate safety measures. These conditions create barriers to student success, particularly for Black children, who have historically been underserved by our education system. This bond is a long-overdue investment in our schools, ensuring that students have access to high-quality learning environments that foster academic achievement, creativity, and well-being. With $424 million dedicated to KCPS and $50 million supporting nine charter schools, this funding will help close the gap in resources that our children have endured for decades. The urgency for action is clear—KCPS has over $1.25 billion in deferred maintenance needs, and Kansas City voters have not passed a school bond since 1967. As a result, our district remains the only one in the region without voter-approved funding for critical improvements. Meanwhile, enrollment is growing, graduation rates are nearing 90%, and academic programs are expanding. Now is the time to build on this momentum and provide students with the facilities they need to thrive. The cost to homeowners is minimal—just 64 cents per day for a $200,000 home—yet the impact on students and the future of Kansas City is immeasurable. By supporting this bond on April 8th, we are investing in the future of our children, our schools, and our community. BLAQUE KC stands with families, educators, and advocates who refuse to accept neglect as the status quo. We urge all voters to make their voices heard and vote YES on April 8th for the KCPS GO Bond.
